"free prisoners of conscience in iran" Campaign
On 12 June 2010, Seattle4Iran in cooperation with United4Iran and 12June.org organized a campaign to mark one year since the 2009 disputed presidential election in Iran and highlight the case of prisoner of conscience, Omid Ali Mehrnia.
Omid Ali Mehrnia is a 70 year old retired school teacher who was arrested by agents from the Intelligence Ministry following the Ashura (December 27, 200) protests. When arrested, agents told Omid Ali’s family that he would return home the same night of his arrest after answering a few simple questions. Since, the IRI’s allegations have resulted in an agenda-driven execution sentence for the elderly teacher.
